  1. Chair’s welcome – Simon Devane

Welcome to our Summer newsletter which provides a selection of updates covering our work in the industry, with partners, a change in our Board, the latest webinars and important updates on the various initiatives we are working on.

As we hit the half year mark, it’s a good time to reflect on how the year has progressed and what we have done to support our membership. In general we have seen an improved trading environment, with strong demand for MSK services on the back of continued challenges within the NHS, a significant (14%) increase in lives covered by private medical insurance and the positive demographic shift that is seeing increased numbers of people in their 20’s accessing private primary care services.

We held an excellent in-person members event on the 11th of June, where our members invited other business owners / prospective members to come along, meet the team, listen to our excellent guest speaker Danielle Henry from IHPN and get a feel for the benefits of becoming a member. Having discussed the success of the event with the Directors, we feel this is a great blue print for future events.

  1. MSKPN Networking event 11.6.25

Thank you to all our members and wider colleagues for joining us earlier this month. It was a strong turnout with around 25 people in attendance.

  1. New MSKPN Board Directors

Following the departure of Rupert and Nicola, who have stepped down due to health reasons, we’d like to sincerely thank them for their valuable contributions over the years. We now welcome two new directors who will continue to support and build on our work.

Firstly, Steven Berkman, the founder and owner of Boost Physio, a successful, multi-site physiotherapy business with 9 physio clinics across London and Hertfordshire, joined us in April. As a member for 5 years, Steven has had many benefits of being an MSKPN member and is excited to be able to give back to the organisation and its members.

Secondly, Cameron Tudor who commenced in June. As Managing Director of West London Physiotherapy and with over two decades of experience as a physiotherapist in Australia and the UK, Cameron has been an active Tier 1 member of MSKPN since its formation in 2018. Recognising the benefits of being part of a community of shared problem solving, he is keen to further help members with regular education, commercial advice and being an advocate for private healthcare.

  1. Industry and partner updates

  1. PMI

In relation to the Private Medical Insurers, inconsistent rate uplifts amongst MSKPN members and a general lack of clarity around criteria for decisions persist.

MSKPN have asked all members to complete a survey, to collate self-funding prices to send across to BUPA in advance of the upcoming review around July 2025.

We are liaising with PhysioFirst and the CSP to progress the establishment of a recommended rate for Physiotherapy (as the BMA do for Doctors / Consultants)

We are still awaiting BUPA to provide further details / timescales around the upcoming network price review and the authorisation process around shockwave.

Thank you to those members who engaged with the survey around self-funding rates, a summary of which was circulated – we have sent this information to both BUPA and AXA Health to include in their benchmarking / network revies.

  1. AXA

Following a meeting in June, AXA is progressing a network wide review of MSK services, starting with Orthopaedics but this will include Sport & Exercise Medicine, Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners, Physiotherapy and Osteopathy. AXA are expecting to conclude this piece of work by the end of the year, with changes to how services are commissioned from 2026.

We have a number of actions in play. They are particularly interested in@

  1. CSP

We have recently sent out to members a detailed email about the CSP Policy Review, encouraging you all to send an email to key people within the CSP – I understand that an email acknowledging receipt of these messages has been sent by the CSP. MSKPN is also submitting a separate statement as a trade association to the CSP.

  1. Leadership Programme

The 2025 MSKPN leadership programme is filling up fast. MSKPN members have had significant benefit from the course over the past 3 years.

Due to high demand we have been able to make additional space available on this course

It runs

Course leader John Fletcher, former director of rugby and head of England’s rugby performance pathway, will be using a spotlight profiling tool that brings to life the persons behavioural style and mindset. Its purpose is to build self-awareness and give information on other people.
